Elephant Spring

In boiling hot weather of Central’s summer, soaking in cool blue water is absolutely great experience for tourists. If you are finding a place like that, Elephant Spring is an ideal choice for you.

Elephant Spring is located at km 879 on the way from Danang to Hue. Going from Da Nang about 50km, we will see km 879, turn left to go about 3km, across Loc Tien commune, Phu Loc district (remember this km index, because if you do not pay attention, it will be difficult to find the way to Elephant Spring).

From Hue, go through Phu Tuong Pass about 2.5km to km 879, turn right and go about 7km (dirt road) to Elephant Spring, a spring full of water with many large cascades pouring out under a primitive forest with quite thick vegetational cover.

How to get to Elephant Spring? There are two options for you. If you like the feeling of traveling, enjoying the scenery in the road to the stream, you can rent a motorbike to get there. However, in Vietnam, mountain roads are quite hard to move as well as pretty dangerous. You’d better book a private car, it is definitely not only more convenient and proactive in traveling and visiting but also safer.

With entrance fee from 10,000 VND/person, you can take a rest, watch the great waterfalls and the grandeur of a diverse primeval forest. At this tourist destination, you can see the beauty of the mountains and forests with many forest flowers such as rose myrtle and ancient trees along the streams.

At the place named Elephant Spring, a rock shaped like a real elephant is using its trunk to drink water at the foot of the waterfall.

There is a lake named Elephant Lake. This is a wonderful natural pool about 30 m2 wide, over 2 m deep, located between two waterfalls. The cool blue lake which you can look through to the bottom.

The bottom of the stream is filled with stones, both big and small and especially the stones are slippery. So even if you know how to swim, you should hire a life jacket, or play near the hut for safety. You can also rent a hut on the downstream. There the lake was shallow, but still clean.

Here, there are households living, they are both giving huts for hire, as well as providing food. My experience is 300,000 VND for a hut along a stream and a grilled chicken, chicken internal organs cooked in a big pot of vermicelli for two people to eat. The grilled chicken is extremely delicious. Or you can order fish, grilled frogs, stream snails cooked in many different types from boiled, stir-fried with lemongrass, stir-fried with leaves, … the dishes here are not too expensive and quite okay . In addition, you can also bring your prepared food, but coming here and definitely should not ignore these unique dishes.

Besides, tourists can participate in interesting experiences such as catching stone crabs and stream snails in the cliffs. Or when going to Vung Du, visitors can cling to the roots hanging down from above to swing over the stream to enjoy thrilling feels and have amazing photo with friends and family.

If you are traveling in Hue or Da Nang, do not forget to visit Hue Elephant Spring, which has many activities such as swimming, sunbathing or rest at the hut and enjoy the rustic, unique local dishes. BNT Travel always accompanies you on the way to conquer Elephant Spring, ensuring you are safe on every trip.
