Detailed Itinerary:

Dong Hoi is about 160km to Hue and about 5hours drive, however, traveling by private car will take a bit longer than that but you will be offered to stop at some tourist attractions on the way. The trip starts in the morning from your place/hotel in Dong Hoi, after a few hours drive, the first stop we would recommend you to visit is  Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River  which was chosen as boundary to divide Vietnam into two parts: North Vietnam and South Vietnam in 1954. Crossing over Ben Hai river, Hien Luong bridge was a witness of the pain, division and separation, it also symbolized for everlasting desire for peace and national reunification of Vietnamese people. Nowadays, Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River become the famous historic landscapes of Quang Tri province attracting more and more tourists who love history.

The next historic place on the trip that you should visit is  La Vang Holy Land . It is located in Hai Lang District and is considered as an important place for Catholic pilgrimages. There are many different explanations of the name La Vang: one is that Catholic took the refugees to the forest and they shouted to call (La) someone and there was an echo (Echo) in the forest when they called out loud, part of the forest became La Vang Holy Land, other meaning is “crying out” and ”echoing” to describe the hard life people had in the jungle. On April 13th 1961, La Vang became the National Marian Center of Vietnam. The La Vang Catholic Festival, known as Kieu in Vietnamese, is held every year on August 15th, attracting thousands of visitors every year.
