Getting Around Hoi An
Bicycle
The best way to escape the old town is by bicycle, with the fee around 20,00vnd per day for an old jalopy or 50,000vnd for a pimped ride.
Boat
Yes, it’s a relaxing way to get around Hoi An, punting along winding waterways, passing picturesque ancient architecture. Pick-up a traditional sampan boat from the rivers edge and sail under the stars at dusk.
Cyclo
Local characters and knowledgeable insiders, Hoi An’s army of blue-shirted cyclo drivers offer visitors (and residents) a unique glimpse of the city streets and surrounding countryside. Expect to pay between 200,000vnd to 250,000vnd for an hour depending on the distance covered.
Motorbike Taxi
Once fun, twice shy. If you like having helmet hair, a filthy face and an empty wallet, go right a head.
Taxi
Taxis are dirt cheap, but no meter, no go. In the evening taxis are scarce and scammy. Avoid arguments by asking your hotel/restaurant/bar to call or pre-order.
For longer trips
Hire a car and a driver – dirt cheap and avoids faff with the meter. Hire a scooter at your own peril – neither your international driver’s licence or insurance company will cover you in all likelihood there.
Crossing the road
Step out like Moses, and behold, the motorbike sea will part before thee. Dally not at the kerb, lest thou grow old and befuddled
